The research on this topic continued especially in correlating rainfall and landslides (Wieczorek 1987; Jibson 1989; Wilson et al. 1992; Larsen and Simon 1993; Wilson and Wieczorek 1995; Montgomery et al. 2000; Wieczorek et al. 2000; Wiley 2000; Chleborad 2000, 2003; Godt et al. 2006). Then, in 1996 a storm caused a high number of fatalities driving the state of Oregon to develop and employ a own rapid landslide early warning system (Wiley 2000; Mills 2002) that is managed by ODOT Oregon Department of Transportation, DOGAMI Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries and NWS National Weather Service (Wiley 2000, DOGAMI 2005). None geotechnical monitoring is provided and only occasionally the snowmelt is taken into account. The intensity-duration rainfall threshold defined by Wiley, 2000, is considered for issuing warnings. The warnings are spread through internet, radio and television.
